*A Note About Levels
Think of this as a disclosure on how much basic instruction is offered. Any student can always take any class. However, in a level 2 class, for example, I may not offer as much instruction about how to do some of the more basic postures as I would in a level 1 class.
This is really an effort to serve students better and meet you where you are, as there are times that an all-levels environment will leave some folks behind (perhaps lacking basic instruction) and hold others back (possibly continually reinforcing knowledge and awareness already gained). Levels are a gray area, but here are some general guidelines for what may be appropriate for YOU! When in doubt, try the class and adapt it to suit YOU!
⦿ Beginner: These classes are for folks brand new to the practice or returning after a long break. (These classes are also excellent for teachers interested in increasing their skills in teaching raw beginners—it’s harder than you think!)
⭐︎ Level I: These classes are for students who know some of the fundamental standing postures, are becoming more accustomed to yoga alignment cues, and endeavor to continue deepening their learning. Classes will often include standing postures, preliminary inversions, and fundamental backbends.
▽ Level 2: These classes are for students who've had more experience with the practice (a year of steady practice or more), and are more capable at understanding how to work at their own level. They have a strong foundation in their practice and are comfortable working more deeply in postures and staying present with what arises.
❂ Level 3: These classes are for students and yoga teachers who are looking to continue to grow their practice and teaching by developing a deeper relationship with the fundamentals and stretching their capacity in the intermediate and advanced level postures. At times there will be minimal instruction in postures. Other times, very in-depth instruction will be given. Creative use of props is often a part of class. Bring on the yoga chair!
